Abstract: Apigenin,a common flavonoid, has extensive pharmacological activities. Apigenin inhibits growth and invasion of tumor cells of urogenital system through a variety of mechanisms and multiple pathways. Apigenin can also induce apoptosis of tumor cells. Meanwile, apigenin has a harmful effect on testis because of its estrogenic activity. Apigenin regulates the endocrine system by the hypothalamus-pituitary-gonadal axis. However, studies on the biological activity of apigenin are mostly in vitro or at animal model stage, and many mechanisms are still unclear. Therefore,it is necessary to study further the pharmacological effects and mechanisms for the further development of apigenin and its clinical application.
