Abstract: Women generally have strong desire for contraception when they are suffering from artificial abortion. The immediate insertion of an intrauterine device （IUD） after an artificial abortion can induce higher rate of effective contraception and lower rate of repeated abortion，while the cost of public health was finally saved. The immediate insertion of IUD after an artificial abortion is safe and high-effective without increased risks of adverse outcomes，such as pain，bleeding，perforation and pelvic inflammatory disease （PID）. Although the rate of IUD expulsion of the immediate post-abortal insertion is low，the follow-up examination is still very important. It's not clear whether the removal of IUD in those women after menopause is difficult. There are two types of IUD for the immediate post-abortal insertion，the copper IUD and the progesterone-releasing IUD.
