Abstract: Polycystic ovary syndrome(PCOS) is the gynecologic endocrine diseases characterized by chronic anovulation and hyperandrogenism. The women with PCOS may be complicated with vitamin D deficiency. Many clinical trials in recent years indicated the association between 25-hydroxy vitamin D [25(OH)D] level and PCOS, including insulin resistance, ovulatory dysfunction, menstrual irregularities, low pregnancy success, hirsutism, hyperandrogenism, obesity and the elevated risk factors of cardiovascular diseases. Vitamin D deficiency may play an important role in aggravating symptoms of PCOS. The preliminary clinical data suggested the possible benefits of vitamin D supplementation in women with PCOS. This review summarized the current clinical researches on the correlation between vitamin D and PCOS.
