    2011, 30 (1):  14-17.
    Abstract ( 2662 )   PDF (255KB) ( 7430 )
Male late鄄onset hypogonadism(LOH)is a clinical and biochemical syndrome which is age鄄
associated with typically clinical symptoms and a deficiency in serum testosterone levels—lower than the
recommend extent of healthy young adult males. Testosterone deficiency takes an important role in its
pathogenesis. Testosterone deficiency is an significant factor which induces sexual dysfunction. Testosterone
supplementary treatment(TST)can improve sexual function of patients with LOH in an extent.

    2011, 30 (1):  18-20.
    Abstract ( 3270 )   PDF (218KB) ( 7372 )
With the development of society and economy, people gradually have realized the
physiological role of testosterone from embryonic development to aging throughout the entire male physical
activity and having a significant impact on the quality of life. As aging after the 40鄄year鄄old male, while the
level of endogenous testosterone reduces, the male will be anxiety, panic anxiety, insomnia, apathy and a
series of psychological performance disorders. Therefore,to further research the relationship between late鄄onset
hypogonadism(LOH)and mental illness is necessary, and certainly for the prevention and treatment of senile
mental mental illness. It is also very important, urgent and has important clinical significance.

The Role of Late-onset Hypogonadism in Males in the Metabolic Syndrome
    GUAN Di;GU Yi-qun
    2011, 30 (1):  21-25.
    Abstract ( 2943 )   PDF (234KB) ( 7419 )
The main characteristics of the metabolic syndrome are visceral obesity, glucose
intolerance, raised blood pressure, dyslipidaemia, inflammation and thrombosis. Low testosterone levels are
associated with the metabolic syndrome closely. The metabolic syndrome is a clustering of risk factors
predisposing to diabetes mellitus, atherosclerosis and cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Cross鄄sectional
epidemiological studies reported a direct correlation between plasma testosterone level and insulin sensitivity,
and low testosterone levels are associated with an increased risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Lower total
testosterone and sex hormone鄄binding globulin predict a higher incidence of the metabolic syndrome. There
were also some clinical trials showing improvements in insulin resistance and glycaemic control with
testosterone supplement therapy. Administration of testosterone to hypogonadal men reverses the unfavorable
risk profile for the development of diabetes and atherosclerosis. The lower serum T level should be an element
in the definition of the metabolic syndrome.

Effects of Testosterone on Body Composition: Bone, Muscles and Lipid Metabolism
    HONG Kai;JIANG Hui
    2011, 30 (1):  26-28.
    Abstract ( 3994 )   PDF (183KB) ( 7539 )
Androgen is related with male bone mass, muscles and lipid metabolism. Testosterone is
the key point to male bone health. Testosterone level in normal range would keep the bone density.
Testosterone would also increase lean body and muscles strength. Meantime, it could control the lipid volume,
especially abdomen lipid. Testosterone supplement therapy for low testosterone level patients would keep bone
density, increase lean body mass and muscle strength and decrease body lipid.

Advances of Basic Research of Late-onset Hypogonadism
    GAO Yong;XIANG Peng;DENG Chun-hua
    2011, 30 (1):  34-38.
    Abstract ( 2375 )   PDF (290KB) ( 7384 )
In recent years, late鄄onset hypogonadism (LOH)attracted people’s attention. The basic
research of late鄄onset hypogonadism became research hot point. When men age,the number reduction and the
functional decline of leydig cells is the core of the disease pathogenesis. The synthesis of testosterone in leydig
cells is a series of enzymatic reactions controlled by a variety of transcription factors. Stem leydig cells
differentiate into leydig cells. Stem leydig cells is very important for the research of the development and
differentiation of Leydig cell and the new treatment of LOH. At present, stem leydig cells has been
successfully isolated and identified, but this research area is still in the initial stage. The transplantation of
leydig cells and stem leydig cells become the most promising way for new treatment research of LOH.

Enhance the Management of IUD Services in Family Planning Clinics at County and Township Level in Western China
    China JIA Xian-jie;YOU Ding-yun;GAO Yi-fei;ZHOU Jie;SU Cun-mei;YANG Yao;ZHAO Min;ZHANG Kai-ning.
    2011, 30 (1):  50-53.
    Abstract ( 3002 )   PDF (279KB) ( 7388 )
Objective: 1. To identify the key elements of IUD(intrauterine devices)services in family
planning(云孕)clinics at county and township level in western China in order to explore the reasons leading to a
higher failure rate of IUD use compared with the lower level FP clinics. 2. To provide recommendations for
enhancing FP service quality at the county level. Methods:Using situation analysis, a cross鄄sectional study
was undertaken in FP clinics within three counties, which were randomly selected out of 129 counties in
Yunnan province. Both quantitative and qualitative methods were adopted in data collection and analysis. Results: Averagely,6.17依2.55 types of IUDs were used in FP clinics at county level, while 4.08依0.92 types of
IUDs were used at township level , which showed a significant difference(Z=2.37,P=0.023). Compared with
the clinics at township level, lower proportion of IUDs were used in FP clinics at county level recommended by
national committee based on evidences of lower failure rate. Moreover, certain types of IUD being reported a
high failure rate were still used in county level clinics. The annual number of IUD insertion cases provided by
a county FP clinics was averagely 129.83依47.42, while the number was reported 288.75依35.18 at town level,
which showed a significant difference (F=22.26,P<0.000 1). It was implicated that weaknesses in service
management existed, such as the absence of effective communication between service providers and managers,
which may contribute to the use of inappropriate types of IUD and undermine the quality of services. Conclusions: FP clinics at county level in western China should improve service quality by controlling the
types of IUDs properly and strengthening the IUD services management.

Study on the Relationship of Epididymis-specific Protein and Sperm Function
    HAN Li-yuan;YU He-ming.
    2011, 30 (1):  54-57.
    Abstract ( 2065 )   PDF (245KB) ( 7290 )
Charactering the sperm specific proteins is to elucidate the function in the process of
reproduction and to develop them as effective targets for reproductive regulation. Mammalian sperm after
spermiogenisis in testis seminiferous tubules, although they are tadpole鄄like, are neither able to swim nor to
fertilize the egg. Sperm must undergo modification in epididymis to be mature, which is called epididymal
sperm maturation. This process mainly includes the sperm membrane protein modification. During sperm
traveling through the epididymis tubes, some proteins are removed away, some are binding on, and some
proteins are glycosylated or phosphorylated. Therefore, the identification of epididymal protein, especially the
epididymal鄄specific protein, is one of the most important points to reveal the function of sperm. The function of
epididymal鄄specific protein, especially on sperm maturation and sperm protection, is reviewed in this paper.

    JIANG Huan-huan;CAO Yun-xia;HE Xiao-jin
    2011, 30 (1):  58-60.
    Abstract ( 2635 )   PDF (221KB) ( 7302 )
As there is an increase of researches concerning andrology, the assessment of sperm has
come to the cellular and molecular level. Sperm chromatin integrity is a new marker of male fertility. It affects
the fertilization, embryo quality, pregnancy and so on. Accordingly,it is necessary to detect sperm chromatin
integrity and adopt certain measures to obtain those sperm with less or no damage, which this can improve the
outcome of ART. Sperm chromatin structure assay(SCSA)is one of the common techniques to measure sperm
chromatin integrity. This review focuses on the mechanism and detection of sperm chromatin integrity damage,
its association with reproductive outcomes, and relevant treatment strategies in assisted reproductive
    technology

Assessment of Sperm DNA Integrity and Clinical Management
    SONG Xue-ru;JIANG Shan;BAI Xiao-hong;YUE Tian-fu
    2011, 30 (1):  61-64.
    Abstract ( 2193 )   PDF (236KB) ( 7408 )
The male fertility is affected by many factors and sperm DNA damage is one of the hot
spots in ART. Spermatozoa mitochondria and nucleus DNA damage have negative effects on normal fertilized
process, pronucleus shaping, implantation and offspring health. At present, sperm DNA damage can be
detected by more and more methods, although none of these provides an ideal method to assess sperm DNA
integrity, and each has its clinical application, which are more stable and more sensitive than the conventional
analysis of semen. It is necessary to assess sperm DNA damage before ICSI. Assessment of sperm DNA damage
is considered to be a new evaluation of semen quality and fertility prediction indicators. This article reviews the
studies on detection of sperm DNA damage and association with reproductive outcomes.

cAMP/PKA Pathway in FSH-Induced Granulosa Cells Proliferation and Differentiation
    CHEN Yue-qun;HUANG He-feng
    2011, 30 (1):  65-68.
    Abstract ( 2475 )   PDF (283KB) ( 7374 )
Follicule鄄stimulating hormone(FSH)is the central hormone of female reproduction. This
gonadotropin is produced and secreted by the anterior pituitary gland as a glycoprotein. FSH evokes its
biological effects by interacting with a high affinity receptor(R)located on the plasma membrane of granulosa
cells in the ovary. The FSH receptor(FSHR)is a glycoprotein that belongs to the superfamily of G protein鄄
coupled receptors(GPCRs),and occupancy of the FSHR causes activation of signaling cascade downstream of
cAMP/PKA pathway. FSH can promote proliferation and differentiation of granulosa cells and synthesis of
    sexual hormone.

    2011, 30 (1):  69-72.
    Abstract ( 3795 )   PDF (246KB) ( 7517 )
Quercetin is one of flavones in phytoestrogen .Recently ,there have many researches about
quercetin, and most of them are related with estrogen correlative diseases, such as breast cancer , osteoporosis
and prostate cancer, et al. In these diseases, there may have many effects, including promoting cell apoptosis ,
controlling osteoclasts differentiation, regulation estrogen metabolism in vivo and effecting tumor cell growth
progression ,involving adhesion ,invasion and angiopoiesis .Comparing with other flavones ,quercetin has its
own distinct character. Many mechanisms may explain quercetin pharmacologic actions, mainly to sum up for
two aspests: 淤Expression of antioxidation: inducing cell apoptosis and regulating estrogen metabolism. 于
Regulation of estrogens: as a estrogen receptor (ER) modulator, quercetin restrains tumor cell growth by
influencing down鄄stream substrate of ER and impacting signal pathway
